ABOUT

Hey,
My name is Selina Thüring. I am a music theatre director and performer based in Berlin and Basel. I create interdisciplinary and immersive music theatre productions for venues and institutions including the Tischlerei of Deutsche Oper Berlin, Neuköllner Oper Berlin, ITZ Tübingen, Mainfranken Theater Würzburg, and the Kammerorchester Basel.

My work explores the interplay of opera, performance, dance, film, physical theatre, and hybrid digital-analogue formats.

I specialise in devised works and world premieres with a transformative quality, in which performers become multimedia voices that communicate through their bodies.

My artistic practice explores themes of transgenerational memory, the depths and contradictions of the human condition, homeostasis, healing sleep, and forms of embodied knowledge that reside within every body, every place, and every object.

Through music theatre, I seek to deconstruct and reimagine opera as a whole, allowing the sensory power of opera to flow back into both the artists and the audience space.

My training includes a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre with a specialisation in Physical Theatre from the Accademia Teatro Dimitri in Switzerland, a Master of Music in Music Theatre Directing from the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, and an intensive choreography programme at the School for New Dance Development (SNDO), at the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK).
